Emoji Components
Emoji Components are special Unicode characters designed to combine with other emoji for skin tones, hair styles, flags, and more, rather than for standalone display.
Technical role and specification
In the Unicode Emoji standard, components are divided into the following main categories:
- Fitzpatrick Skin Tone Modifiers:
U+1F3FB–U+1F3FF(five levels) modify the skin tone of hand and person emoji. - Hair Components:
U+1F9B0,U+1F9B1,U+1F9B2, andU+1F9B3join person emoji through ZWJ (U+200D). - Regional Indicator Symbols:
U+1F1E6–U+1F1FFcombine in pairs to form ISO flag emoji. - Keycap Components:
U+20E3(Combining Enclosing Keycap).
